Wonder of the Seas may be heading for a significant update in early 2027, and Wonderland could be one of the venues affected.
Royal Caribbean has not publicly announced a refurbishment or confirmed that Wonderland is being removed.
However, two pieces of information have caught my attention.
First, a recent Wonder of the Seas passenger commented on one of my videos that crew members told them Wonderland is expected to close in December and that cabins would be added in its place.
Second, Wonder of the Seas appears to have an approximately 24-day gap in its published cruise schedule between January 19 and February 12, 2027.
Neither fact proves that Wonderland is being removed.
But together, they raise a very reasonable question about what Royal Caribbean may be planning for Wonder.
What does the Wonder of the Seas schedule show?
Royal Caribbean currently lists a four-night Wonder of the Seas sailing departing Miami on January 15, 2027.
That sailing returns to Miami on January 19.
Current cruise schedules then show the next Wonder of the Seas sailing departing Miami on February 12.
That creates a gap of roughly 24 days with no normal revenue sailings showing.
A gap like that can sometimes indicate:
- Scheduled dry dock work
- Maintenance
- Refurbishment
- A charter
- Operational repositioning
- Other planned shipyard work
At this point, Royal Caribbean has not announced what Wonder will be doing during that period.
What did the passenger report?
A viewer who had recently sailed Wonder of the Seas commented that they ate at Wonderland and were told by crew that the restaurant would shut down in December and cabins would be added.
This is a passenger report, not an official Royal Caribbean announcement.
Crew members can sometimes hear about operational changes before guests do, but plans can also change.
For that reason, I am treating this as credible enough to investigate, but not confirmed.
Why the Wonderland rumor is believable
The biggest reason this report is worth paying attention to is Harmony of the Seas.
Royal Caribbean completed a major amplification of Harmony in 2026.
As part of that project, Wonderland was completely removed and the space was converted into new staterooms.
Royal added 91 cabins across Harmony during the project.
That established a recent precedent for Royal taking a Wonderland space on an Oasis Class ship and converting it into revenue-producing cabins.
Wonder of the Seas is also an Oasis Class ship.
That does not mean Royal will automatically repeat the same decision on Wonder, but it makes the possibility much more plausible.
Why would Royal remove Wonderland?
Wonderland is one of Royal Caribbean’s most unusual specialty restaurants.
The restaurant is highly themed, with imaginative food presentation and a menu designed to feel more experiential than traditional.
Some cruisers love it.
Others enjoy the novelty once but do not consider it a restaurant they would repeatedly book.
That creates a business question for Royal Caribbean.
A specialty restaurant generates additional onboard revenue when guests dine there.
Cabins generate revenue every sailing.
If demand for Wonderland is limited compared with more mainstream restaurants, Royal may decide that the space is more valuable as passenger accommodations.
That appears to have been part of the logic behind the changes made to Harmony of the Seas.
Does Wonder of the Seas need a refurbishment already?
Wonder of the Seas entered service in 2022.
By early 2027, the ship will have been sailing for nearly five years.
That does not make Wonder an old ship.
However, cruise ships routinely undergo scheduled dry dock periods for inspections, maintenance and updates.
A multi-week period out of service after several years of operation would not be unusual.
The bigger question is whether Royal uses that time only for routine maintenance or also makes guest-facing changes.
Could other areas of Wonder change?
Possibly, but I would not expect Wonder to receive the same kind of overhaul Harmony did.
Harmony’s 2026 amplification was partly about bringing an older Oasis Class ship closer to Royal Caribbean’s newer fleet standard. It added newer concepts such as Pesky Parrot, Playmakers and El Loco Fresh, expanded the casino, refreshed the pool deck and converted several public spaces into additional cabins.
Wonder already has many of those newer features, so Royal would not need to repeat the same modernization project.
The changes that seem most plausible would be the ones that fit Royal’s recent pattern:
- replacing Wonderland with cabins, if the passenger report proves accurate
- replacing Bionic Bar with a newer bar concept such as Pesky Parrot
- adding more cabins in underused public spaces
- potentially expanding revenue-producing areas such as the casino
Other Harmony changes, such as adding Playmakers, El Loco Fresh, Giovanni’s or a Caribbean-style pool deck, would make less sense on Wonder because those newer concepts are already part of the ship.
That distinction matters. If Wonder does undergo work in early 2027, it may be less of a full “amplification” and more of a targeted update focused on revenue, venue replacement, and maintenance.
Is Wonder of the Seas going into dry dock?
As of September 20, 2026, Royal Caribbean has not officially announced a Wonder of the Seas dry dock for the January 19 to February 12, 2027 period.
The schedule gap makes a dry dock or maintenance period plausible, but that remains an inference.
Until Royal confirms the ship’s plans, it is safest to describe this as an apparent schedule gap rather than a confirmed dry dock.
Is Wonderland definitely closing?
No. The only information currently suggesting that Wonderland will close comes from a recent passenger who says crew members told them about the plan.
That is worth noting, but it is not the same as an official announcement.
Would Wonderland be replaced with cabins?
That is what the passenger says they were told.
Royal Caribbean has not confirmed it.
However, Royal did exactly that on Harmony of the Seas during its 2026 amplification.
On Harmony, the Wonderland space was converted into additional passenger cabins.
Why would Royal add more cabins?
Cabins create recurring revenue.
Each additional stateroom can generate cruise fare, gratuities, onboard spending and future bookings every time the ship sails.
On large, high-demand Oasis Class ships, even a relatively small increase in cabin inventory can produce meaningful long-term revenue.
The tradeoff is that more cabins also mean more passengers using the same public spaces.
Could the schedule gap be for something else?
Yes. Possible explanations include:
- Routine maintenance
- Regulatory inspections
- Technical work
- Charter operations
- Repositioning
- Shipyard work unrelated to passenger venues
That is why the schedule gap alone should not be presented as proof of a refurbishment.
Why this story matters
If Wonderland is removed from Wonder of the Seas, it would be another sign that Royal Caribbean is reevaluating how much space specialty concepts deserve on its largest ships.
Harmony’s recent refurbishment already showed that Royal is willing to remove established venues when the company believes cabins or more popular concepts will generate better returns.
Wonder may become the next example.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is Wonderland being removed from Wonder of the Seas?
Royal Caribbean has not officially confirmed that.
A recent passenger reports that crew members told them Wonderland would close and cabins would replace it, but that remains unconfirmed.
When could Wonderland close?
The passenger report suggested December, but Royal has not published a closing date.
When is the Wonder of the Seas schedule gap?
Wonder returns to Miami on January 19, 2027, and the next currently listed sailing begins February 12, creating roughly a 24-day gap.
Does a schedule gap always mean dry dock?
No. It can indicate maintenance, a charter, inspections, repositioning or other operational work.
Has Royal removed Wonderland from another ship?
Yes. Royal removed Wonderland from Harmony of the Seas during its 2026 amplification and converted the space into cabins.
How many cabins did Harmony add?
Harmony added 91 new cabins across multiple areas of the ship during its 2026 refurbishment.
Is Wonder of the Seas an Oasis Class ship?
Yes. Wonder of the Seas is an Oasis Class ship.
When did Wonder of the Seas debut?
Wonder entered service in 2022.
Is Wonder old enough to need dry dock work?
Ships undergo scheduled maintenance and inspections throughout their operational lives.
By early 2027, Wonder will have been in service for nearly five years, so a maintenance period would not be surprising.
Would removing Wonderland make sense financially?
Potentially. A specialty restaurant generates revenue only when passengers choose to book it.
Additional cabins can generate cruise fare and onboard spending on every sailing.
That does not prove Royal is making the change, but it helps explain why similar changes were made on Harmony.
Will other restaurants on Wonder change?
There is currently no confirmed information about additional restaurant changes.
Has Royal announced a 2027 Wonder refurbishment?
Not at this time.
Should I change my cruise plans because of this?
No. There is not enough confirmed information to suggest passengers should change plans.
If you are sailing after February 2027 and Wonderland is important to you, watch for future Royal Caribbean announcements and updated deck plans.
Final thought
This may turn out to be nothing more than routine scheduled maintenance.
But the combination of a multi-week gap and a specific passenger report about Wonderland is enough to make this worth watching.
The Harmony precedent makes the rumor especially interesting.
If Royal Caribbean confirms a Wonder of the Seas refurbishment or Wonderland removal, I will update this article as more information becomes available.
