Harmony of the Seas Refurbishment: What Changed in 2026?
Harmony of the Seas returned to service in May 2026 after a major Royal Caribbean Amplification that added new restaurants, bars, cabins, suites and entertainment spaces.
The refurbishment makes the ship feel more consistent with newer Royal Caribbean ships such as Utopia of the Seas. However, the changes were not all simple upgrades. Royal Caribbean also removed several existing public venues to create more staterooms and expand the casino.
Here is what changed, what stayed the same and what passengers should know before booking the newly amplified Harmony of the Seas.
What class of ship is Harmony of the Seas?
Harmony of the Seas is an Oasis Class ship.
It originally entered service in 2016 and was the third Oasis Class ship, following Oasis of the Seas and Allure of the Seas.
Oasis Class ships are known for their large size and their neighborhood-style design. Rather than feeling like one long cruise ship, they are divided into areas such as:
- Central Park
- The Royal Promenade
- The Boardwalk
- The Pool and Sports Zone
- Entertainment Place
- The Youth Zone
Harmony also includes major Oasis Class attractions such as the AquaTheater, an ice rink, the Ultimate Abyss dry slide, the Perfect Storm waterslides, the zip line and two FlowRider surf simulators.
This class tends to appeal to travelers who want a large selection of restaurants, shows and activities. The tradeoff is that the ship can require more planning and more walking than a smaller Royal Caribbean ship.
When was Harmony of the Seas refurbished?
Harmony of the Seas entered dry dock in Cádiz, Spain, in April 2026 and returned to service on May 21, 2026.
The work was part of Royal Caribbean’s Royal Amplified program, which updates existing ships with newer dining, entertainment and resort-style concepts.
Harmony sailed a short European season after the refurbishment before relocating to Port Canaveral, Florida.
What is new on Harmony of the Seas?
A refreshed Caribbean-style pool deck
One of the most visible changes is the updated pool deck.
Royal Caribbean added brighter Caribbean-inspired décor, new furnishings and three Lime & Coconut bar locations around the pool area.
The ship already had its main pools, Splashaway Bay and the Perfect Storm waterslides, so this change is mainly about atmosphere, seating and bar service rather than adding a completely new water attraction.
The Pesky Parrot replaced the Bionic Bar
The Bionic Bar on the Royal Promenade has been replaced by the Pesky Parrot.
The Pesky Parrot is a tropical tiki-style bar that originally debuted on Utopia of the Seas. Unlike the robotic Bionic Bar, it has human bartenders and a more social bar atmosphere.
This is one of the clearest examples of Royal Caribbean bringing a newer-ship concept to Harmony.
Playmakers Sports Bar and Arcade replaced Sabor
Playmakers Sports Bar and Arcade is now on the Boardwalk in the former Sabor restaurant location.
Playmakers includes televisions showing sports, arcade games and an à la carte food menu with items such as wings, burgers, nachos and desserts.
Its Boardwalk location is useful for families because it is near the carousel, arcade, Johnny Rockets and AquaTheater.
El Loco Fresh replaced Mini Bites
El Loco Fresh has been added near the pool and sports area on Deck 15.
This is a complimentary restaurant serving casual Mexican-style food such as tacos, burritos, quesadillas, rice, beans and toppings.
It replaced Mini Bites and may provide a convenient alternative to the Windjammer, especially during lunch. It has also reportedly offered breakfast items on some sailings.
Samba Grill was added to the Solarium Bistro
The Solarium Bistro continues to operate, but the space becomes Samba Grill during dinner.
Samba Grill is a specialty Brazilian steakhouse with grilled meats and other dishes served as an extra-cost dining experience.
Passengers should not confuse this with a new complimentary restaurant. The dinner experience is an additional charge.
Giovanni’s Italian Kitchen and Wine Bar replaced two venues
Jamie’s Italian and Vintages were replaced by Giovanni’s Italian Kitchen and Wine Bar in Central Park.
The combined concept gives Harmony a newer version of Royal Caribbean’s Italian specialty restaurant along with an adjacent wine-focused bar.
This is another change intended to make Harmony’s dining lineup feel more similar to newer ships in the fleet.
A new Escape V: Science Lab escape room
Harmony now has a functioning escape room called Escape V: Science Lab.
The entrance is located within the Adventure Ocean area on Deck 14. The activity requires participants to work together to solve puzzles within a set amount of time.
This is an extra-cost activity and may require a reservation.
An updated teen area
Harmony’s teen space was updated and is now called Social100.
It includes games, entertainment and hangout areas intended for guests ages 13 through 17.
Part of the previous teen area was repurposed for the relocated Crown Lounge.
New panoramic and family suites
Royal Caribbean added several new suite categories, including Ultimate Panoramic Suites above the bridge.
These suites have large floor-to-ceiling windows instead of balconies and include Royal Suite Class benefits.
Harmony also received a two-story Ultimate Family Suite on Deck 17. It includes family-focused features such as a slide and gaming areas and can accommodate a larger group.
Approximately 91 new staterooms
Reports following the refurbishment say Royal Caribbean added approximately 91 cabins.
Some were created in spaces that previously housed public areas, including:
- Wonderland
- The original Vitality Café
- The former conference center
- Portions of the Solarium and youth areas
- Former photo-related spaces
Adding cabins allows more guests to sail, but it also means some existing public spaces were reduced or removed.
What venues were removed from Harmony of the Seas?
The refurbishment eliminated or replaced several recognizable venues.
Wonderland
Wonderland, Royal Caribbean’s imaginative specialty restaurant, was removed and replaced with cabins.
Anyone specifically choosing Harmony because they want to try Wonderland should know that it is no longer available.
The Bionic Bar
The robotic Bionic Bar was replaced by the Pesky Parrot.
Some guests will see this as an upgrade because the new bar is more social. Others may miss the novelty of having robots prepare drinks.
Sabor
Sabor, the specialty Mexican restaurant on the Boardwalk, was replaced by Playmakers.
Harmony still has Mexican-style food through El Loco Fresh, but El Loco Fresh is a casual complimentary venue rather than the same restaurant experience.
Mini Bites
Mini Bites was replaced by El Loco Fresh.
Jamie’s Italian and Vintages
Both Central Park venues were replaced by Giovanni’s Italian Kitchen and Wine Bar.
The original Vitality Café
The dedicated Vitality Café near the spa was removed to create additional staterooms.
Juices and smoothies may still be offered through a smaller pop-up location in the On Air Club, but this is not the same full café space.
The Attic comedy club
The Attic was removed as part of the casino expansion.
Harmony no longer has the same dedicated intimate comedy-club venue. Comedy and variety performances may instead be scheduled in the Royal Theater.
The former Crown Lounge location
The Crown Lounge was removed from Deck 4 to make space for the expanded casino.
It was relocated to Deck 15 in part of the former teen area. The new lounge has windows and natural light, which some loyalty members may prefer, although its location is farther from the Royal Promenade.
Harmony now has Royal Caribbean’s largest casino
Casino Royale was expanded into the former Attic and Crown Lounge spaces on Deck 4.
The expansion includes additional casino space surrounding Studio B, including a non-smoking section.
Royal Caribbean describes the casino as the largest in its fleet.
This change will be appealing to guests who spend time in the casino, but it is less meaningful for passengers who would have preferred that space remain available for comedy, loyalty events or other entertainment.
It is one of the reasons the refurbishment should not be described as an upgrade for every type of traveler. Royal Caribbean invested heavily in areas that can generate additional onboard revenue.
Did Harmony of the Seas finally get a Solarium pool?
No.
Harmony of the Seas still does not have a pool inside its adults-only Solarium.
The area received new furnishings and an additional outdoor sun deck, but the ship retains its existing whirlpools and water-mister setup.
Harmony remains unusual among Oasis Class ships because of the missing Solarium pool.
The new outdoor area may be appealing to passengers who want direct sun and unobstructed views, but it does not solve the longstanding complaint from guests who wanted an adults-only pool.
Were the existing cabins renovated?
Passengers should not assume that every existing stateroom was fully renovated.
The refurbishment added new cabins, but reports from early post-refurbishment sailings indicate that many existing cabins were largely unchanged.
A dry dock can include mechanical maintenance, public-area renovations and new venues without replacing the carpet, furnishings or bathroom finishes in every existing stateroom.
If a newly built cabin matters to you, review the current deck plan and confirm whether your cabin number is in one of the areas added during the 2026 refurbishment.
What did not change?
Many of Harmony’s signature features remain, including:
- Central Park
- The Boardwalk
- The AquaTheater
- Studio B and the ice rink
- The Ultimate Abyss
- The Perfect Storm waterslides
- Splashaway Bay
- The zip line
- FlowRider
- The carousel
- The Royal Promenade
- The main dining rooms
- Coastal Kitchen for eligible suite guests
- Johnny Rockets
- Sorrento’s
- Café Promenade
- Chops Grille
- 150 Central Park
- Izumi
- Wonderland is the notable exception because it was removed
Harmony also did not receive a new Broadway musical during this refurbishment. The former production of Grease has ended, and Royal Caribbean’s original production Voices has been used as the main Royal Theater show.
Entertainment can change by sailing, so passengers should check the Royal Caribbean app closer to their cruise.
Is Harmony of the Seas now like Utopia or Wonder of the Seas?
Harmony now has more features in common with newer Oasis Class ships, but it is not identical to Wonder or Utopia.
The Pesky Parrot, Playmakers, El Loco Fresh, Giovanni’s Italian Kitchen and Lime & Coconut make the food, bar and pool-deck lineup feel more current.
However, Harmony still has its original overall layout, does not have the same suite neighborhood as Wonder or Utopia and still lacks a Solarium pool.
The refurbishment modernized selected parts of the ship rather than turning it into a completely new ship.
Why does the refurbishment matter?
Harmony entered service in 2016. By cruise-ship standards, that does not make it ancient, but Royal Caribbean has introduced several newer Oasis and Icon Class ships since then.
The refurbishment helps Harmony compete by adding popular venues that guests may already recognize from newer Royal Caribbean ships.
It also matters because Harmony is now sailing from Port Canaveral, giving Florida cruisers another large Oasis Class option without needing to sail from Miami or Fort Lauderdale.
The less flattering interpretation is that Royal Caribbean used some of the renovation to add revenue-producing cabins, restaurants, bars and casino space.
Both things can be true. Harmony now has a more current selection of venues, but it also carries more cabins and has fewer public spaces in several parts of the ship.
Is the amplified Harmony of the Seas worth booking?
Harmony may be a good choice for travelers who want:
- A large Oasis Class ship
- A wide selection of entertainment and dining
- Central Park and the Boardwalk
- Family activities and waterslides
- A Port Canaveral departure
- A mix of newer Royal Caribbean venues and established Oasis Class attractions
It may be less appealing to travelers who:
- Prefer smaller ships
- Want a quiet, simple cruise
- Dislike casinos
- Expected all existing cabins to be renovated
- Want an adults-only Solarium pool
- Specifically wanted Wonderland or a dedicated comedy club
The refurbishment gives Harmony more current dining and bar options, but the best reason to book it is still the overall Oasis Class experience.
