If you’re sailing with Royal Caribbean, you’ll want to know how show reservations work. Between Broadway-style productions, AquaTheater performances, ice shows, and comedy, the system isn’t always obvious, and it’s not the same on every ship. Here’s the complete guide.

Which Ships Require Show Reservations?

  • Icon, Oasis, and Quantum Class Ships → You can pre-book most big shows.
  • Freedom, Voyager, Radiance, and Vision Class Ships → No advance reservations required; shows are first-come, first-served.

When Do Reservations Open?

  • Official guidance: The first day of the month before your sailing or about 30 days in advance.
  • Real-world experience: Many cruisers report reservations appearing 30–45 days out, sometimes even earlier.
  • Pro tip: Start checking daily around 60 days before your cruise so you don’t miss the window. If you’re in a Facebook group for your sailing, chances are someone in there is checking daily as well, so they may just catch it and announce it to the group.

How to Book Show Reservations

  • On the Royal Caribbean App: Go to EntertainmentShows & Movies once the tile appears.
  • On the Royal Caribbean Website: Look under Entertainment in your Cruise Planner.
  • If you’re booking for multiple cabins, link the reservations ahead of time.
  • Each guest can reserve one time slot per show.

What if a Show Says “Sold Out”?

Don’t panic. “Sold out” doesn’t mean you’re shut out completely. Royal only releases a portion of seats before the cruise.

Once Onboard:

  • Check the app again using the ship’s free Wi-Fi (additional reservations are usually released).
  • Visit Guest Services on embarkation day for help.
  • Standby Line: Arrive 30–45 minutes before showtime. Staff usually admit standby guests about 15 minutes before the performance starts, filling seats from no-shows and late cancellations.

Reserved Seating and The Key

Even if you purchase The Key or have another reserved section perk, you still need to book a reservation.

  • Reserved areas improve your seating options, but they don’t guarantee entry without a reservation.
  • Any unused reserved seats are released to standby guests close to showtime.

Special Note for Quantum Class Ships

Quantum Class ships usually require reservations for only one major show. The rest are open seating, but always confirm in the app, since policies can shift depending on the sailing.

Quick Checklist

  1. Start looking at 60 days out.
  2. Reserve in the app or website as soon as Entertainment appears.
  3. On embarkation, reconnect on ship Wi-Fi and check again.
  4. Visit Guest Services for help.
  5. Use the standby line if you didn’t get a reservation.

Bottom Line

Show reservations are free and included with your cruise fare. Planning ahead gives you peace of mind, but even if you miss the booking window, you still have plenty of chances to see the big productions.
